NOT QUITE UNDER_GROUND 

HOW MIGHT I: accurately represent the artwork of Michael Smith? Building off of the narratives presented in Smith’s work, I worked with Smith to utilize his expansive mythology of symbols, combined with my experience as a tattooed youth to help design the signage and props for his work Not Quite Under_Ground, a video and interactive installation and relational performance. The video uses the installation — a fully-operational tattoo shop — as a set, in which Smith contemplates receiving a tattoo as a Senior Citizen on vacation. Created for Skulptur Projekte Münster 2017, the video was screened along with the Not Quite Under_Ground Tattoo Shop, which was accessible as a fully-functional tattoo shop open to the public; patrons 65+ received a senior discount.
